Job Purpose 

Drive the growth of high-profile SME business in the branch by aggressively recruiting new customers, retaining existing relationships, and continuously reviewing client wallets to optimise the Bank’s revenue through cross-selling appropriate product bundles.


Responsibilities /Key Deliverables

  • Aggressively recruit new high-profile SME customers while retaining and managing existing relationships to support the branch's growth in balance sheet and profitability.
  • Identify Local Area Networks of high-profile SME business opportunities and ecosystems and work with the Branch Manager and Manager SME to offer product solutions that match the customer needs.
  • Participate in community events and networking activities to increase the bank's awareness and presence in the community.
  • Take a consultative approach to understanding clients’ objectives, effectively identify their financial needs, implement appropriate financial solutions, and undertake ongoing reviews and assessments to ensure exceptional customer relationships.
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of high-profile SME customers to avoid end-of- period panics.
  • Prepare credit applications and participate in the underwriting and branch credit committee approval process.
  • Drive deposit mobilisation from SME clients by ensuring that clients fund their accounts. Work with the branch manager and the Manager SME to formally contact borrowers to fund their accounts as indicated in their loan covenants.
  • Ensure that all loans are documented completely and that any documentation or loan policy exceptions are addressed and resolved.
  • Monitor the exposures of the Branch SME portfolio to ensure that actual performance is consistent with approved limits and loan covenants as informed by the credit approval.
  • Prepare and present for approval thorough, timely, and accurately analysed credit applications.
  • Manage the branch's high-profile SME relationships with minimal supervision while effectively communicating with the Branch Manager and Manager SME.
  • Manage branch key customer relationships through regular contacts and visits by ensuring the effective call program is maintained on all existing and prospect customers.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the branch relationship officers to enable them to grow in knowledge and career.

  • Financial Responsibility

    • Spot early warning signals so as to maintain a high-quality portfolio within the agreed-upon NPL ratio.
    • Monitor and analyse the performance of client accounts, tracking key metrics such as revenue, deposit, profitability, and client satisfaction.
    • Pursue opportunities to expand the high-profile SME client portfolio by acquiring new clients and cross-selling additional banking products and services, including trade finance, Insurance, Forex, digital suite, and Islamic banking offerings.
    • Ensure that all client interactions and transactions comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards.
    • Drive the Bank’s digital agenda among the branch SME clients.


    Person Specification

    Education & Training

    • A Bachelor’s degree in finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, management, or any relevant field.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs.


    Skills & Experience

    • 4 years’ experience in Banking with 2 years of managing SME relationships
    • Proven sales experience in a client relationship role in SME banking.
    • Experience in utilising computer technology.
    • Relevant Experience in structured trade finance and ecosystem financing.
    • Relevant knowledge in credit analysis and documentation.
    • In-depth understanding and knowledge of SME Banking Products.
    • Experience in dealing with difficult problems involving multiple facets.
