About Ashinaga Uganda:

Ashinaga is a Japanese non-profit organization that provides educational and emotional support to young people who have experienced the loss of one or both parents. In the past 45 years, Ashinaga has raised over $1bn to enable more than 100,000 orphaned students to complete higher education in Japan. In 2001, Ashinaga expanded beyond its domestic activities and now supports a global community of disadvantaged young people, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. We now have offices in Uganda, Senegal, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, and have supported over 100 hundred orphaned students from Sub-Saharan Africa to study at universities in Japan, Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Brazil.



Key Responsibilities:

1. Consultation Services:

  • Provide immediate legal advice on matters arising within the organization.
  • Offer guidance and strategic legal counsel to the management team.


2. Attendance at Meetings:

  • Represent Ashinaga Uganda at board meetings, negotiations, and other critical engagements as required.


3. Correspondence:

  • Handle all legal correspondence related to ongoing legal matters, including letters, emails, and faxes.


4. Legal Opinions:

  • Prepare and present legal opinions on controversial or complex issues under Ugandan law.


5. Documentation:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate basic agreements, ensuring they meet organizational requirements.
  • Handle the registration of documents and filing of annual returns as needed.


6. Company Secretarial Services:

  • Provide secretarial services, including attending board meetings, and general meetings, and managing other statutory documents.


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in legal practice, preferably with experience in non-profit organizations.
  • A practicing advocate of the High Court of Uganda.
  • Proven experience providing legal representation and advice in contentious and non-contentious matters.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage complex legal issues and provide timely, strategic legal solutions.
