UKS was registered as a National Organisation within the International Kolping Society during the International Convention at Innsbruck, Austria in 1982. This was five years after the founding of the first Kolping Family of 22 members at Munteme Parish Hoima Catholic Diocese on 4th December 1977 by Rev. Fr. Karl Hartl, M. Afr. Fr. Karl Hartl served as first National Praeses of Uganda Kolping Society until retirement in 1998.
He also played an important role in the establishment of AKA. As at 31st December 2008, UKS had 10,000 registered members in 295 registered Kolping Families. Thus all the various members in all the Kolping Families constitute the UKS which exists in sixteen (16) dioceses of: Hoima, Fort Portal, Kaseese, Mbarara, Kabaale, Kiyinda Mityana, Kampala, Lira, Soroti,
Since its inception, during the period of civil strife in Uganda, UKS has endeavoured to promote the general Kolping mission of making the world a better place to live in, through promotion of membership and the general community to live as true Christians responsible for society through families, church and state.
